Inclusive Recruitment and Reasonable Adjustments · Lesson 2

Create a clear request and response route

Course overview · 4 min reading + 12 min practice, estimated

Principles and method

Tell candidates how to request adjustments and who will respond. Ask about what would support participation rather than seeking unnecessary diagnostic detail. Keep information confidential and share only what the people arranging the process need. A request should reach someone with authority and time to act before the assessment. Confirm the agreed arrangement and how to report a problem. Avoid promising an adjustment that has not been checked for feasibility or suitability. Escalate uncertainty to the appropriate specialist rather than letting the candidate repeatedly explain the request to every interviewer.

Worked example

A candidate requests captions and additional preparation information. One coordinator agrees the arrangements, checks the platform and briefs the panel on the practical setup without circulating private medical details.

Put it into practice

Write an adjustment request workflow with acknowledgement, clarification, decision and confirmation.

Use fictional information and keep your work in your own notes.

Compare your approach: self-review guidance

Name an owner and fallback contact. Limit access to sensitive information. Include a check before the event so an agreed adjustment is actually available, not merely noted in the ATS.
