Build the business support structure
Course overview · 4 min reading + 12 min practice, estimated
Principles and method
Identify the legal, accounting, insurance, privacy and operational questions your business model raises. Use qualified advisers and current official sources for jurisdiction-specific decisions. Set up appropriate banking, record keeping, agreements and handling processes before taking on work. Keep business and personal information organised with suitable security. Determine how you will manage complaints, conflicts, supplier access and continuity if you are unavailable. This is a readiness checklist, not a recommendation of a particular tax structure or legal form. The right setup depends on the actual circumstances.
Worked example
A solo recruiter prepares a checklist for an accountant and legal adviser covering structure, invoicing, tax, engagement terms and the intended recruitment model. They do not copy another agency’s terms without review.
Put it into practice
Create an adviser brief with ten questions grouped by business, legal and data operations.
Use fictional information and keep your work in your own notes.
Compare your approach: self-review guidance
Describe your actual service and geography so advice is relevant. Distinguish decisions you can make operationally from those needing professional confirmation.
