Evidence-Led Candidate Screening · Lesson 2

Extract evidence without embellishment

Course overview · 4 min reading + 12 min practice, estimated

Principles and method

Record the observation, its source and the criterion it informs. Distinguish a demonstrated task from a self-description such as excellent leader. Summaries should preserve relevant context and uncertainty. Do not allow a polished AI summary to introduce achievements absent from the original material. A negative finding needs evidence too: not mentioned is different from does not have. Keep notes professional and proportionate because they may be reviewed or challenged. Where a material claim is ambiguous, formulate a neutral question that allows the candidate to clarify their contribution.

Worked example

A CV says supported a quality audit. The screener records participation and asks which findings or actions the candidate owned. It does not upgrade the phrase into led all regulatory audits.

Put it into practice

Annotate five fictional CV statements with evidence, inference and a clarification question.

Use fictional information and keep your work in your own notes.

Compare your approach: self-review guidance

Keep the candidate’s actual contribution visible. Label uncertain ownership and avoid translating an employer’s success into the individual’s achievement without support.
