Combine channels with a reason
Course overview · 4 min reading + 12 min practice, estimated
Principles and method
Different channels expose different parts of the market. Professional associations, referrals, events, public technical contributions and permitted databases can complement platform searches. Choose channels based on the required capability and access rules. A referral is a lead, not an endorsement that replaces assessment. Do not bypass access controls, scrape prohibited data or use personal contact details without an appropriate basis. Maintain consistent eligibility criteria across channels so visibility does not become an unfair advantage. Track where evidence came from and where contact preferences must be respected.
Worked example
For a specialist metrology role, the team reviews relevant conference speakers and professional communities alongside standard databases. It checks actual responsibilities and uses appropriate professional contact routes rather than assuming every speaker is seeking a job.
Put it into practice
Design a three-channel plan with one coverage benefit and one limitation per channel.
Use fictional information and keep your work in your own notes.
Compare your approach: self-review guidance
Explain what each channel adds, how you will use it legitimately and how candidates receive the same assessment opportunity. Include a route for people outside your immediate network.
